Spotty Coordination

(Dress and stockings: Forever 21/ coat and shoes: Modcloth)

You may have noticed that I really love color, and that many of my outfits incorporate at least one bright color. I tend to avoid black for a couple reasons: I tend to feel like I'm going to a funeral or a business meeting, neither of which I find enjoyable, and it isn't a color that makes me happy to look at. Black clothing also feels too much like a uniform to me, since it actually was my uniform when I worked retail, and that makes me feel constrained and limited.

Black and white together, however, is a color combination I love to wear. I love the extreme contrast between the two, and how classic and elegant the combination feels, like this outfit that I wore Wednesday. I love the fact that almost all of the elements of the outfit also have polka dots, from the dress to the stockings, and even the lining of my coat. It all felt so put together and consistent. I even had matching white sunglasses with black polka dots, although they admittedly stayed in my backpack for most of the day.

Sadly this will probably be the last time I wear this exact outfit, due to runs that have been forming in the stocking. It was a beautiful combination while it lasted though!

Strawberry Fields Forever

(Shirt: vintage from TheCulturequeen on Etsy/ skirt: Forever 21/ shoes and sunglasses: Modcloth/ hat: vintage from Ebay/ bag: vintage from The Other Side Vintage in Tallahassee/ necklace: Ross)

If you know me, you know that I am obsessed with strawberries and anything strawberry flavored, so of course I was not going to leave Miami without picking some myself at Knaus Berry Farm. I spent half of my last day in Miami doing just that with two of my wonderful friends, one of which I had not seen in over a year. Despite the near record breaking heat and the two hour line we endured for some of their famous cinnamon rolls, we had a lot of fun.

I have a strange habit of  waiting to wear new clothes until the "perfect occasion" comes. That was the case for my 1970s strawberry embroidered peasant crop top and my strawberry straw hat, both of which I have had for over half a year without wearing. They both went perfectly with my strawberry bag that I picked up for under eight dollars in my favorite vintage store in Tallahassee about a year ago. The polka dots on one of the strawberries on my purse also really matched with my polka-dot sunglasses. I just love how all the details of this outfit just went together. This is one of my all-time favorite outfits I have ever put together, and if it wasn't so cold here in Tallahassee I'd wear it again real soon.

A Beautiful New Year's Eve

(Dress: vintage from Dusty Desert on Etsy/ earrings: Claire's/ bow: Forever 21)

Last night was a wonderful way to end a wonderful year. I wore a beautiful dress that complimented the beauty of some flowers in our yard, and then went to the Cheesecake Factory with my family. I ended the night by watching Disney movies and eating cheesecake with my lovely boyfriend, who gave me the best New Year's kiss ever.

2015 has been wonderful, and I have every hope and belief that 2016 will be even better. I have lots of plans, travel and otherwise, and I cannot express how excited I am for them all!

I hope you all had a great time celebrating the new year, and are just excited as I am for everything to come!

Love,
Michelle

P.S. I couldn't resist including a picture with Elijah (below), because he looked so darn cute (as always).

A Very Vintage Christmas

(Dress: vintage from Ebay/ bow: Forever 21/ shoes: Target)

This Christmas Eve I was lucky enough to get to wear one of the most beautiful dresses I've ever seen and which I am lucky enough to own. I was quite overdressed for my family's humble gathering at my abuela's house, but I always take the chance to take out some of the fancier pieces in my closet on Christmas. Otherwise they would barely see the light of day, other than when I throw them on in my apartment on the days when I'm overcome by the beauty of a particular vintage gown. Besides, isn't it right to wear some of my favorite dresses on my favorite holiday?

This dress is by far my favorite in my closet now and maybe ever, because it has everything I could ever want in a dress. I love sheer bishop sleeves with cuffs, details like belts and buttons that add to the design and remain consistent with it, chiffon and velvet combinations, sheer layered skirts that I can twirl in, cinched waists, and romantic floral detail. This gorgeous gown has it all, including registers and registers of roses, my absolute favorite flower.

This dress even looks very similar to this beautiful dress featured in the Katy Perry cover story of Vogue for July 2013, which had the most beautiful and romantic dresses in shades of red and black that I have ever seen. I'm still dreaming of the day I find a similar dress to this Dolce and Gabbana one, which was my favorite in the whole article. Maybe Santa will bring it for me one year, if I'm really good...

On this Christmas Day and everyday, I hope you enjoy your family and friends and wear the things that make YOU happy, even if they are dressy or different or even super casual. And remember that you don't have to wait to be invited to a ball to put on your favorite gown and feel beautiful! I certainly never do.

Love,
Michelle
