Halloweek: A Week in Outfits

This past week at school I dressed up Halloween-y every single day and had a lot of fun doing it. I meant to post all the pictures this past Thursday or Friday before Halloween so that it was more relevant, but I was busy having so much Halloween related fun. So this might be late, but there is still only 365 days to next Halloween!

Monday

Monday I dressed up very inspired by ancient Egypt and Egyptomania in general, thinking about all the curses that were associated with tombs and mummies.  This Egyptian printed vest in my closet has long been one of my favorite and most unique Goodwill finds, and it paired really well with my bowler hat and this chunky necklace that I got from Modcloth on clearance.

Tuesday

Tuesday I dressed up as the Corpse Bride meets Lana del Rey and loved it. The shirt and skirt combination look like Lana's outfit in Summertime Sadness. I didn't paint my skin blue like Emily, but I did wear a blue flower crown and wore Victorian inspired vintage shoes from L.A. Boudoir.

Wednesday

Wednesday I got to carve a pumpkin in my art class, so I dressed for the occasion with my Jack-O-Lantern shirt and some silly candy corn socks. Unfortunately my shirt has shrunken to half its original size, so I had to wear a blazer over it the whole day. The blazer looked good with my little black Mary Jane heels though, which in turn made my silly candy corns look cuter and tied the whole outfit together.

Thursday

Thursday I wore this very buggy dress with my eyeball earrings. I also decided to wear dark red lips rather than the dark brown lip stain that I had been wearing since last Wednesday. I really like the brown lip stain for Halloween but I absolutely hate routine and had to change it up.

The week leading up to Halloween is always one of the funnest and most exciting of the year for me, and this year was no different. I'm already looking forward to Halloween next year and planning costumes and decorations.

Thrifted Treasures: A Week in Outfits

Last week was, as always, very busy and filled with both a lot of fun and a lot of work. The whole week was a rush to finish different projects and homework before I left town for Gainesville for the weekend. It was because of this rush that I don't have outfit pictures from Tuesday, but oh well. I also got really sick this weekend on top of being out of town so this post is really late. Better late than never though!

Monday

Monday's outfit was built around my new patchwork shirt made by someone of the Miccosukee tribe, worn as an anti-celebration of Columbus Day. Instead of celebrating him, I celebrated the Indigenous Peoples of America, and so for Monday's outfit, only my patchwork shirt was important. On another note related to this outfit and Halloween, it is ok to wear clothes that celebrate and show appreciation for Native American culture. It is not ok, however, to culturally appropriate Native "costume," or wear any other racist, stereotyped costume representing other groups for that matter. Even when those type of costumes are not inaccurate (which they usually are), they are extremely offensive. Wednesday

This vintage 90's dress was a recent find from a local vintage store's sale rack. For ten dollars, it was an awesome steal. The dress is so comfy and I love the front panel of the dress that makes me feel like a casual 90's princess. The print itself is a lot of fun, and the purple in the dress really matches with my hair.

Thursday

This was the first time I wore this amazing shirt that I got over the summer at Goodwill for just two dollars. It is beaded and feels really delicate, with some of the beads and strings already a little loose, but with gentle care it still has a lot of life left in it. I love everything about it and how, just like the other pieces I wore last week, it really is a wonderful thrifted piece that you can build a really nice and easy outfit around.

I think I am going to try to post a week in outfits every week now, but let's see how that works out as the semester starts to wrap up and work starts to pile up. These posts are a lot of fun for me though, not only because they require minimal work and no planning, but because every time I take pictures of my outfit, whether it be before or after class, I get to have a little fun and make myself smile and look excited so that for the rest of the day I end up genuinely smiling and excited.

Back to School: A Week in Outfits

What a first week to the semester! Not that it was super exciting for me or that I did anything super cool but just that I really like my classes and teachers (at least for now).  I love being an Art History student because of how interesting my classes are, and this semester promises to be especially so as I start on my Museum Studies minor and also taking my last studio art class. I don't like to brag or anything but while other people worry about Chemistry and Business classes, I am going to be building a boat out of recycled materials and put together an exhibit about combat photos in World War II!

Anyways, I just figured I'd share all the outfits I wore this week to school. Dressing up for school can be a bit of a challenge for me in the beginning of the semester, since my instinct usually is to dress up super fancy, which I feel sort of weird doing at a university where almost everyone wears t-shirts and shorts.  Usually in the beginning of the semester I tend to try to dress more "normal" but later on I just stop caring what people think (like I should've been doing all along) and dress in whatever I feel like, weather permitting.

Monday:
Bumbling About and Figuring Things Out

Usually I have an outfit planned out in my head a bit before the first day of school, but this year I didn't. Instead in the morning I just threw on a dress I haven't worn in a while and then accessorized it in a way that coincidentally matched my notebook. I guess not so coincidental though given the thirty percent chance I'll be wearing red on any given day.

Tuesday:
Disney Drop/ Add Aspirations

I really like the classes I'm taking this semester but I also really wanted to try to get into the Disney Art History class that was full. My favorite (and I think currently my only) vintage Disney t-shirt of Flower, after whom I will one day name my pet skunk.  No luck getting into the class, but at least I still looked cute.

Wednesday:
Getting into the Spin of Things

Probably my favorite outfit this week with all the jewel tones and the beautiful necklace. The chance to paint on some matching purple and turquoise cat eye eyeliner was also wonderful. Wednesday was nice because it was the first real day of class, I had finalized my class schedule, and I invented hot chocolate ice cream floats.

 I had a lot of fun taking pictures of this outfit (obviously) and am actually beginning to learn how to photograph myself in my new apartment with the self timer mode on my Canon.

Thursday:
Basically Friday (Hurrah!!)

I don't wear this beautiful dress often enough. I love how all the dots get closer together at the bottom and the band of flowers. Another thing I love is that I only have classes Monday through Thursday, so Thursday was a very easy day to get through.

I have no outfit pictures from Friday, which I spent cutting and painting paper flowers for my wall in my Minnie Mouse PJ's literally all day. It was glorious honestly.
