Fighting Fall: A Week in Outfits

This past week we really began to see some evidence of fall in Tallahassee in the form of some slightly cooler weather. As a form of passive rebellion against the changing weather, I wore summery outfits the whole week. All of them were really rushed outfits but still really beautiful because of how lovely each of the vintage dresses I wore are and how easy it is to build nice outfits around them. That's the beautiful things about dresses to me: throw on a really nice one, and you are almost completely dressed and your outfit made. Here's to what I hope will be at least a couple more weeks that aren't too chilly to wear summery dresses.

Monday

 Monday I was feeling really mentally unprepared for a week of classes, so I threw on my happiest, brightest, most colorful summery dress to get me over it. I also wanted to celebrate the fact that my teacher for my art studio class gave us the day off by wearing open-toed shoes, which I can't for that class, so of course I threw on my matching rainbow shoes. The flower crown I had made over the weekend, but I didn't wear it to school. I should have worn it though because it would have made Monday even better!

 Tuesday

 Continuing with the summery vintage dress theme, I wore this gorgeous gingham 1950's or 1960's dress from Miami Twice. The construction of the dress is amazing, especially the waist. I don't wear this dress nearly enough. My B.A.I.T. footwear pastel rainbow pink shoes went perfectly with it.

Wednesday

Wednesday I wanted to continue my little theme for the week, but I was super rushed to get ready so I just grabbed the first vintage summery dress my eyes landed on, which happened to be this very patriotic rather long one. I really like the dress but honestly it is just too big on me, and wearing it Wednesday convinced me that I need to let it go so that someone else can appreciate it better. The shoes I also decided to get rid of because unfortunately while running to class through the grass these faux suede shoes of  six years started to really fall apart in new ways.

Thursday

 Thursday I felt very much like a blueberry and loved it. I love this vintage white dress with its baby blue polka dots and darker blue blueberry patches. The blues look really nice against my purple hair and pair perfectly with this cropped baby blue cardigan. 

DisneyBounding: Blonde Edition

Anyone who knows me will know that I am crazy about Disney. Like many other kids, I grew up on Disney movies about princesses and heroes, magical lands, pirates, sword fights, wonderful animal side kicks, and beautiful and inspiring music. The characters that Disney has developed over the years and their wonderful personalities are a large part of what makes Disney so magical for me (problematic stereotyping and traditional gendering aside). 

Last week I decided to DisneyBound three of my favorite blonde Disney characters in order to celebrate my last week as a blonde before dying my hair purple. I used only what props and materials I had on hand or could quickly make, and these photos are the result. I hope you enjoy looking at them as much as I enjoyed taking them!

Rapunzel

Tangled was such a beautiful movie with Rapunzel presented as such a wonderful innocent character, so it was wonderful to dress up as her. I actually had another much more simple and plain purple dress and outfit in mind, but this beautiful vintage dress that I had ordered on Etsy came in the day before I planned on taking the pictures, and I realized how perfect it was for Rapunzel. My chameleon earrings for channeling Pascal were purchased with dressing up as Rapunzel one day in mind a while back. The flowers I had already cut out and painted with the intention of adding them to the 200 or so flowers I have already put up on my walls, so I just sewed them loosely onto barrettes and stuck them in my hair.

Tinkerbell

Tinkerbell is such an incredibly fiery and emotional character that communicates how she feels despite only speaking in bells. One of the reasons I really love her was that she is so different from the other female characters created before the Disney Renaissance in the 90's. She can be a bit naive and rash at times, but in the end she's very loyal and spirited. Dressing as her was pretty easy to do, and the wire wings I made literally only took me two hangers, two minutes, and a little bit o duct tape. The shoe clips were pretty easy too, as all I did was glue cotton balls onto barrettes. The only problem was that the cotton balls started to fall apart when I walked around and took the pictures so I kept having to put it back together very roughly. Also I love these elf ears that I got at a Renaissance festival earlier this year and I look for any excuse to put them on.

Elsa

Due to Frozen's popularity, dressing up as Anna and especially Elsa has become a little cliche, but I love Frozen too, so I just went for it anyways. I've had this dress forever, and it's perfect for Elsa so I just went for it. In preparation for these photos, all I had to do was cutout a whole bunch of snowflakes and draw Olaf on a piece of paper with magic markers. It was really fun repetitively throwing snowflakes in the air, though not as fun picking them all up between takes.

This DisneyBounding post was a lot of work but also really enjoyable, considering how much I love Disney, dress up, and pictures. In fact it was so fun that think I might make it a recurring feature on my blog, especially considering how many DisneyBounding outfits from my closet I always come up in my head.

Back to School: A Week in Outfits

What a first week to the semester! Not that it was super exciting for me or that I did anything super cool but just that I really like my classes and teachers (at least for now).  I love being an Art History student because of how interesting my classes are, and this semester promises to be especially so as I start on my Museum Studies minor and also taking my last studio art class. I don't like to brag or anything but while other people worry about Chemistry and Business classes, I am going to be building a boat out of recycled materials and put together an exhibit about combat photos in World War II!

Anyways, I just figured I'd share all the outfits I wore this week to school. Dressing up for school can be a bit of a challenge for me in the beginning of the semester, since my instinct usually is to dress up super fancy, which I feel sort of weird doing at a university where almost everyone wears t-shirts and shorts.  Usually in the beginning of the semester I tend to try to dress more "normal" but later on I just stop caring what people think (like I should've been doing all along) and dress in whatever I feel like, weather permitting.

Here is me trying to not stick out too much on the first week of school:

Monday:
Bumbling About and Figuring Things Out

Usually I have an outfit planned out in my head a bit before the first day of school, but this year I didn't. Instead in the morning I just threw on a dress I haven't worn in a while and then accessorized it in a way that coincidentally matched my notebook. I guess not so coincidental though given the thirty percent chance I'll be wearing red on any given day.

Tuesday:
Disney Drop/ Add Aspirations

I really like the classes I'm taking this semester but I also really wanted to try to get into the Disney Art History class that was full. My favorite (and I think currently my only) vintage Disney t-shirt of Flower, after whom I will one day name my pet skunk.  No luck getting into the class, but at least I still looked cute.

Wednesday:
Getting into the Spin of Things

Probably my favorite outfit this week with all the jewel tones and the beautiful necklace. The chance to paint on some matching purple and turquoise cat eye eyeliner was also wonderful. Wednesday was nice because it was the first real day of class, I had finalized my class schedule, and I invented hot chocolate ice cream floats.

 I had a lot of fun taking pictures of this outfit (obviously) and am actually beginning to learn how to photograph myself in my new apartment with the self timer mode on my Canon.

Thursday:
Basically Friday (Hurrah!!)

I don't wear this beautiful dress often enough. I love how all the dots get closer together at the bottom and the band of flowers. Another thing I love is that I only have classes Monday through Thursday, so Thursday was a very easy day to get through.

I have no outfit pictures from Friday, which I spent cutting and painting paper flowers for my wall in my Minnie Mouse PJ's literally all day. It was glorious honestly.
